Write a draft job description (no longer than one page) for a job that you have had according to the principles described in this chapter. Compare these principles with those in use by your organization’s HR department or what you believe those to be.
This chapter provides rationale for conducting a job analysis and explains some of the limitations. Take a stand for or against the use of job analysis, and provide convincing arguments for your position.
What is the relationship between the job description (JD) and job analysis (JA)? As a human resource (HR) practice, the job analysis should proceed the job description, however, the textbook explains the JD to develop your critical thinking skills for the JA. Explain how the JD and JA influence the compensation structure such as ranking, grades, exempt, non-exempt status or any other identifiers in the structure.
