Understanding Special Ed in Illinois

In some schools counselors are asked to be actively involved in both the IEP meetings and 504s. In other instances, they have not always been included. Either way, a clear understanding of both the IEP and the 504s is important.

Read and be prepared to discuss the following chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 6. Pick one chapter and research it further. Create a handout that summarizes the main ideas for the class and be prepared to present your topic to the class.

If you have access, find a sample of an IEP and/or 504 (make sure it is blank or all names are blocked) that can be shared with the class.
