This exam covers materials discussed in Weeks 1-3.

In essay format, address 3 prompts of your choice. Do not answer more than 3. You will not get extra credit for additional essays.

Information can come from lectures, the textbook, the four supplementary primary source books, Canvas primary source readings, and/or other reputable sources (If using the latter, print sources and online journals are preferred and must be cited. Be careful what you Google!)
Style and Mechanics
Write as clearly and concisely as possible.
Because this is a take-home exam, grammar and mechanics will be taken into consideration.
Here are the prompts from which you must choose 3:
Which prehistorical human developments were most integral to the creation of civilization? Include at least three developments in your discussion.
Discuss similarities and differences between Mesopotamian and Egyptian civilizations. How did geography shape their cultures? Include at least three major points of comparison.
Discuss slavery throughout the historical time period we have studied so far this semester. Include specific examples from multiple civilizations (at least 3), and be sure to discuss the different types of slaves, their roles in society, and how they were treated.
Describe the emergence and development of the Greek polis. Compare and contrast at least two different poleis using at least three major points of comparison.
Describe the events of the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars, and explain how these conflicts paved the way for the rise of Alexander the Great and the Hellenistic Empire.
Which played a more significant role in shaping the daily lives of average people in the Ancient Greek world: scientific discoveries or contributions to political/philosophical thought? Include at least three examples, accompanied by specific historical evidence to support your argument.
Discuss the role of women throughout the historical time period we have studied so far this semester. Include specific examples from multiple civilizations (at least 3), and be sure to discuss the different classes of women, their rights in society, and how they were treated.
Did Julius Caesar have a positive or negative impact on Roman Civilization? Cite specific historical evidence from the Late Republic on, and include at least three examples to support your stance.
How did Christianity originate, what was its relationship with the Roman Empire, and how did it eventually transform Rome?
Was the Crisis of the Third Century inevitable or could it have been prevented? Which Roman policies or traditions may have contributed to it? Which factors were out of their control? What, if anything, should they have done differently to avoid it?
