The impact of culture on translation in audiovisual

The impact of culture on translation
Your essay should be a coherent presentation of your ideas about if and how culture
affects translations and/or translators and you have to narrow down the topic to a specific
aspect (e.g. political texts, ideology, etc).
It needs to have a clear thesis that you will develop and support in the body of your
essay.
To support your ideas you will need to refer to translators actual practice. For this
purpose, you will need to analyse one or more existing translations and/or refer to
examples from research done by other scholars.
You will need to select one or several aspects of the above general topic and explore
them in detail. The essay should have a clear focus (its thesis) and revolve around
theoretical concepts discussed in class, e.g. cultural mediation,
domestication/foreignisation, assimilation/exoticism, cultural filter, overt/covert translation,
translation norms, translation universals, ideology in translation, etc.
The essay needs to be written in academic style and follow academic referencing
conventions. You are required to follow the Harvard referencing style:

Your essay needs to include at least one reference to a journal article on a related topic
which was not mentioned/discussed in class. In this way you will show that you are
capable of doing research, i.e. identifying, understanding and utilising other peoples ideas.
The 2000 words DO NOT include the final bibliography and footnotes. The main body of
your essay including in-text citations instead DOES count.
