Your textbook discusses the dimensional model of personality disorders as an alternative to the way the DSM currently categorizes personality disorders. Do you believe that personality disorders can best be understood as a constellation of maladaptive symptom clusters on a continuum or do you think that there is something more involved for individuals with a personality disorder? Do you think that any of the personality disorders, or some specific traits, are ever good or useful to have? What cultural factors should we take into consideration when assessing and conceptualizing personality disorders? For example, could there be certain personality disorders that are more likely to be diagnosed in one gender more so than another gender?
