The goal here is for you to become familiar with the Health/Medical branch of the Natural
Sciences. You will craft a 4 (FULL) page essay which will include the abstract and title page
required in APA (American Psychological Association) format* (meaning you will have a total
of 7 pages), based on one of the following topics:
Universal Health Care Its been in the news lately, but universal health care also
touches on historical issues such as how it has been implemented in other countries
ethics and right-to-treatment, and socio-economics. Isolate an issue within universal health
care and explain it in depth.
Right to Die Assisted suicide is legal in some countries (like Holland) and a taboo topic
in others. Write about the legality in general (for or against) or illustrate the specific
conditions in which assisted suicide should be acceptable.
Treatment Options Choose an illness, such as clinical depression or cancer, and
compare and contrast the different treatment options available.
Treatment Availability Compare and contrast the medical systems and availability of
doctors within two areas, locally and internationally. Your thesis can also draw a
conclusion about which system is better based on your research or, briefly, how the
contrasting system might be improved.
Opioid Crisis What is the ongoing issue with opioids? What has the government done
to aid with this crisis? What is the current medical stance on the issue? What can we do to
rectify the problem?
Suggested Essay Development: Within the confines of your paper you will discuss the subject
at length, providing not only the causes and effects of the subject but also a summary and
analysis of current research being done on the topic. Some of these topics may be found more
rewarding than others. Choose wisely.

d. A thesis statement (i.e. Based on current research and studies done by reputable health
facilities, it is clear to see that fast food restaurants play a large role in the rising rates of
obesity.)

b. Why is it an issue?
III. Your Stance
a. What is your stance on the subject?
b. Introduce current research to support your thought
c. Synthesize the research with your thoughts

IV. Look to the Future
a. What does the future hold for this issue?
b. Are there potential ramifications from this problem or is there a solution on the
horizon?
V. Conclusion
You will need to research your topic thoroughly and provide enough information to back up your
claims. I am requiring a minimum of 5 sources for this paper. Only 2 of these sources may be
web sites, the rest must come from a reputable journal or health report (meaning that you can
only have two sources like WebMD.com or MayoHealth.com, the rest have to be actual articles).
These sources must be detailed in your Works Cited page as well as cited within your text.
