In this essay, consider the relationship between two texts this is called comparative analysis. You will interpret how one work responds to or relates to another work. A strong argument will also suggest why the relationship between these two texts matters in relation to British culture, history, politics, gender, or theology.

The task: Choose two texts assigned in this class. Compare your two texts by analyzing a characteristic or set of characteristics that they share. For instance, you might compare a piece of medieval literature to one from the Renaissance and discuss what surprisingly similarities in they have regarding how they see gender identity, knowledge, or power. Ultimately, what aspects of the texts you decide to compare is up to you. Make sure you also suggest why the comparison of these two texts matters or teaches us something about British literature, British history, or our own world today.

Other details: You may write on any text we have read this semester EXCEPT for the text you chose for Essay #1. Your work should have a thesis that is, a controlling idea and focus that is arguable, unified, and original. You should use the text, including quotations, to support your work.
