Again, your response should not summarize the text. Instead, you should consider what images of Africa, Africans, and (if relevant) Westerners are apparent in the text and how those are conveyed to the reader/viewer. Determining what images are conveyed will likely be straightforward. To get at how those images are conveyed, think about what types of information, narratives, and/or images are included and what is excluded. Consider too the diction and syntax of written texts and the impact those have on the text. (What types of words is the author using, how are the sentences constructed (if relevant), and how does that contribute to the effectiveness of the piece). Similarly, for images and film, consider staging, camera shots, and (if relevant) score as well as the text/dialogue. You dont need to address each element in the analysis, but you should consider them as you analyze the reading, and then choose the most significant to focus on the written analysis. Ultimately, you want to produce a cohesive analysis of the whole that draws on these elements to make a compelling argument about the types of images and narratives contained in the text and the ways in which they are conveyed to the reader.
