In addition to their continuing identity as Jews no matter how observant they may be, Jewish identity also takes precedence over ethnic identity based on national origin (German, Russian, Polish, and so on). Is this creation of religiously based ethnic identity unique in American society or are there other religious groups that might evolve in this way?
