Week 2 Writing Reflection: The essays will be no less than 750 words and will attend to each of the questions/directives below.
Throughout our second week we discussed the history of patriarchal oppression Black women have faced and examined the ways Black feminists and lesbians have articulated demands for justice, equity, and ultimately humanity. In addition, Jamaica Kincaid offered us a searing critique and understanding of how colonialism and its legacies have survived and ultimately continued through tourism. For this weeks reflection I present you all with the following questions:
According to Audre Lorde what is the importance of community for Black women and women of color in terms of survival (use quotes from the text)? Also, what is the role of difference in understanding and combatting inequities for Black women and other women of color?
Angela Davis and the Combahee River Collective (CRC) offer up critiques of the white suffragist and feminist movements. According to Davis and CRC what are some of the shortcomings of white womens politics historically and what makes Black womens experiences inherently different from those of white women?
Connect Cesaires critiques of colonialism to the work of Jamaica Kincaid (use quotes from the texts). Specifically, in what ways do the legacies of colonialism show up in Antigua (2 examples)?
